If beauty is skin deep … so is the bacteria, dirt, dead skin cells and oils that clog pores. Thankfully, several effective topical treatments are now available for blackhead treatment and removal. These come in the form of deep-cleansing soaps, moisturizers and other formulations. If your blackhead problem is acute, the services of a professional dermatologist will be essential. However, for a mild problem, there are a number of simple steps that you could take at home.

The Dos!

Use steam frequently to open up facial pores and soften the blackheads. If your skin appears or feels oily, daily face washes using warm water and a mild cleanser, work well. Use two separate towels, one for your body and the other for your face, making sure they are clean before use. Include non-oily vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. A frequent change of pillowcases is essential to prevent transfer of oil produced by the scalp to your face from the pillowcase. Use a deep-acting, facial skin cleanser, even if you do not have blackheads, as this will keep dirt and other pollutants off your face.

The Don’ts!

Do not use abrasive scrubbers, blackhead extractors, or worse still, attempt to remove them by pinching or squeezing them out. Refrain from using bar soaps or oil-based creams, gels and moisturizers. These may remove dirt on the surface of the skin but not beneath it or from within the pores.

Once you have learnt how to get rid of blackheads, you will need to make changes in your lifestyle to ensure the problem does not recur. Then again, you can take measures to ensure they do not occur in the first place, measures that will be well worth the time, effort and money spent for smooth, blemish-free skin.

Oral antibiotics are the mainstream method for medically treating acne. Many of these antibiotics alter the hormone level, which plays a major role in causing acne. Treatment usually begins with a large dosage, which can eventually be reduced as the acne lessens. However, acne can eventually become resistant to the antibiotics, so another medication may need to be supplied.

Oral contraceptives are an effective way to heal acne that has been caused by overactive sebaceous glands in females. They cannot be used as a long-term cure, and should not be consumed by women who are over 35, who smoke, or suffer from migraine headaches.

Removing acne is not easy. People have many different types of skin that produce many different kinds of acne. A product that works great on one person might not work for another. Fighting acne should be done internally and externally. Internal methods do not always involve medications but they should always involve proper hydration and diet. Knowing how sensitive your skin is will play a role in its treatment. Extractions might be effective on one persons skin and leave large holes on another’s highly sensitive skin. Picking the right treatment for your skin type will be the most important step. Here are the ways I managed to remove acne from my face and body.

1. Cortisone Shots removes acne in minutes. This is a shot given by you dermatologist into the infected area, usually large cystic acne. Cortisone reduces swelling and promotes healing. It is naturally occurring in your body from your adrenal glands, which are located above you kidneys. One small injection will make a large cystic nodule disappear. This is the fastest most effective way at removing acne.

2. Accutane will remove the worst case of acne. A dermatologist prescribes this drug to people who have severe acne. It takes two months to completely clear up your skin and the treatment can last up to 6 months. This drug has harsh side effects and as a result is not right for everyone. However, if you have tried other medications with no luck Accutane will be successful in removing acne.

3. Extractions are the easiest acne removal method that will get rid of your acne fast at home. Extraction will only work on pimples that have a head, blackheads and whiteheads. Cystic nodules cannot be treated with extractions. Never do extraction before you have to show your face anywhere. These will leave red marks for a day or two. Red spots from extractions can be reduced quickly with a clay mask.

4. Exfoliate your skin. One of the main reasons people have acne is because of dead skin cells. Dead skin cells build up in pores also known as hair follicles. Exfoliating your skin twice a week will remove the dead skin and make it less likely to have clogged pores. Exfoliating will not only act as an acne remover but also preventer.

5. Drink more water and drink less soda. Everything that you drink will go out of your skin when you sweat. Water will cleanse the skin and soda will treat it like a garbage can.

These techniques and medications are the only way I have been able to treat my skin. After suffering from extremely severe acne I would not be acne free today without using these five removing acne techniques.

The face has multiple crevasses where  bacteria grows and this area is often touched a lot creating more bacteria. Face acne can be combated if you can identify the root cause and the most effective treatments.

1. Acne occurs because there is blockage in hair follicles, also called pores. The hair follicle packs old cells together to grow hair. Hair grows almost everywhere on your body making it possible for acne to occur just about anywhere. This includes the face for both men and women. The problem that occurs in the hair follicle that causes acne it is called Hyperkeratinization. This is when the cells that line the inside of the hair follicle aren’t forcing the cells out of the follicle. Normally dead skin cells are forced out of the follicle; this is the process of growing hair. However, sometimes the dead skin cells do not leave the follicle because there is too much keratin.

2. Keratin is a natural protein found in the skin. The high amount of keratin makes the dead cells bond together. This forms a cap or plug in the follicle. This is acne.

3. Sebum plays a major role in the formation of acne. Sebum produces oil and can act as a way of protecting hair and skin. Too much sebum creates oily skin. When sebum oil gets blocked it cannot get to the surface of the skin and bacteria grows in the follicle or pore. This is acne.

How do you combat these naturally occurring issus?

In order to best treat your face acne and prevent more acne from occurring you need to remove the dead cells and reduce oil. This can be easily done my exfoliating your face twice a week. This will greatly reduce the whiteheads and blackheads on your face. The best face acne treatment is to exfoliate. The best scrub I have used is Saint Ives Apricot Scrub. This is found at any drug store and is under $7.00. This is by far better than any scrub I have received from a dermatologist or a homeopathic skin specialist. You do not want to use this often because it will cause redness.

The other way to treat face acne is with retinoids also known at Retin-A. This helps normalize the follicle cell lifecycle. I used the acne face cream Retin-A and it is effective while I was using it. It did not completely clear up my acne and once I stopped using it my acne returned. However, this product has helped many people with moderate acne. While using Retin-A I felt as if I had received a mild chemical peal. My skin became red and sensitive.

If you have tried many different kinds of acne treatments and you still have bad acne get an Accutane prescription. Accutane will clear up the worst acne problem in a matter of months. This is the best acne treatment on the market but it is hard to get and the side effects are harsh.

Accutane is the only way I know how to get rid of acne effectively and sustainably. After suffering from bad acne and trying many different prescription creams and pills Accutane was the only effective medication. The first time I took Accutane it completely cleared all the acne that covered 30% of my body. I had large cystic nodules on my back, chest and face. Two years after taking Accutane my acne returned. It was not nearly as severe but it was bad enough to obtain a second Accutane prescription. The second time on Accutane it got rid of my acne forever. It is not easy to get an Accutane prescription. This article will help you obtain one and understand why many people aren’t eligible.

How Accutane Gets Rid Of Acne

1. Slows down how fast the skin produces skin cells. Which unclogs the pores in the skin.

2. Accutane will reduce the size of the skins oil glands and how much oil is produced. Bacteria lives in the oil of the skin. The bacteria is dramatically reduced because the oil is.

Getting An Accutane Prescription

Accutane is only prescribed to people with severe acne. Severe acne can be interpreted in many different ways but you will be hard pressed to find a dermatologist to prescribe you Accutane if you don’t have cystic nodules. Dermatologist cannot prescribe Accutane unless you have tried at least two other forms of prescribed acne medication. If you have tried two forms of prescribed acne medication and you still have severe acne, regular appearing cystic nodules, you are eligible for an Accutane prescription.

Picking The Right Dermatologist

Not all Dermatologists prescribe Accutane. Make sure when you are choosing a dermatologist that they are certified to write Accutane prescriptions. The second time I took Accutane my acne was not that severe. I called over thirty dermatologist and asked the people at the front desk if the dermatologist prescribed Accutane and how often. These questions were perceived as being a little odd to the people at the front desk. I simply explained I was looking to take Accutane for a second time and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to waist a year and a lot of money using acne medications I knew were ineffective.

Helping Your Dermatologist Help You

Keeping a personal health record insured that my new Dermatologist would write me an Accutnae prescription. I had documents of when and who prescribed me acne medications. Your doctor has no idea what medications you have taken prior to your visit. An Accutane prescription requires that you have taken other acne medications. Maintaining documents made the dermatologist feel confident that I was eligible for Accutane. Without these my doctor has no way on knowing if I am eligible to receive a prescription. This means I may have to try other acne medications before receiving Accutane even if I have already tried them.

If your dermatologist thinks you are not responsible enough to handle an Accutane prescription you wont get one. Even if you have very bad acne. Accutane has severe side effects. These side effects include depression, hair loss, inflammatory disease of the bowls etc. The federal government closely monitors women on Accutane through the ipledge program. This is because Accutane causes birth defects if you become pregnant while taking it.  The bottom line is the side effects of this drug can be tremendous and should only be taken by responsible people.

Accutane And Insurance Companies

Many insurance plans will cover Accutane. Bad acne is not viewed as a cosmetic problem because it is painful and scarring. Often there is a lot of  acne on multiple parts of the body, Accutane is how you get rid of body acne. The first month I took Accutane I didn’t have health insurance. I paid $130 dollars for one month of Accutane. The following month I had health insurance and I paid $50 a month for Accutane.

There are many websites that claim you can order Accutane online. Never do this. Those drugs do not contain the active ingredients and they are certainly not how to get rid of acne. Theses drugs have higher chance of harming you than curing acne.

Accutane and Ipledge Program

The ipledge program is the reason it is hard to obtain an acne prescription. The ipledge program replaced the previous smart program (System to Manage Accutane Related Teratogenicity) in 2006 to prevent women from becoming pregnant while taking Accutane. The ipledge program is time consuming for the patient and physician. It requires the patient to reveal very uncomfortable and personal information about herself. A women’s menstrual cycle and pregnancy results are given to the federal government every month while taking Accutane. The reasoning behind the ipledge program is to prevent women from becoming pregnant while taking Accutane because Accutane causes birth defects.

Dermatologists are not allowed to prescribe more than 30 days of Accutane at one time. This is because prescriptions can only be written after a negative pregnancy result. Once the negative results are recorded you have a 7 day window to see your doctor, get a prescription and update ipledge before you become ineligible. If you fail to do this you have to wait another 30 days before you can receive a prescription even if you are in the middle of your treatment.

Why Dermatologists Hate To Give Accutane

Dermatologists do not want to put in the extra work and be monitored closely by the federal government. As a result it can be difficult to get this acne medication that so many people need. This is why you have to find a dermatologist who prescribes Accutane often. I saw four dermatologists who wanted to prescribe me acne cream before I found one to prescribe me Accutane. Every time a dermatologist said no, I just went to another one. Accutane changed my life and I hope it will help many other people.

Home remedies for pimples are not going to be consistent and they are going to be pretty ineffective to treat large nodules and cystic acne. I spent years going to an all-natural acne specialist in Berkeley California. This was the biggest waist of time and money. I was fifteen when I started going to this place and I went because my mother did not want to give me any harsh acne medications even though I had very bad acne. If you are a parent who feels uncomfortable giving your kid acne medications that are harsh and they have severe acne, reconsider.

The only home remedies for pimples that are effective dry up your skin and get rid of bacteria. This results in smaller pimples and less breakouts. These methods will not cure your acne. They will help reduce breakouts and make your pimples smaller.

A home remedy for pimples that reduces bacteria

1. Turmeric kills bacteria and is used in a lot of home remedy pastes. Tetrahydrocurcuminoids (THC) found in turmeric has the antioxidant properties and the ability to lighten the color of skin.

2. Sandalwood lessons irritations and reduces swelling. It contains beta-santalol, which has antimicrobial properties. This reduces the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and protozoans. This should always be diluted because it is very strong. This can be effective in reducing face acne especially crevasses around your nose which are prone to bacteria.

A home remedy for pimples that dry the skin

Lemon juice contains AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acid). Applying lemon juice, fresh lemon juice is effective in treating pimples. You do not want the kind in a jar because there are often seven or eight ingredients and you only want to use the lemon juice. Buy a few lemons and squeeze the juice yourself this will insure you are only getting lemon juice. Applying the lemon juice over your face with act as an acid peel.  This removes the outer most layer of your skin bringing new healthier skin cells to the surface. This will cause some redness and it will make your skin dry. This can be compared most closely to using astringent.

These methods are not proven to be effective, but for occasional breakouts home remedies for pimples could be just what the doctor ordered.

Where is the T Zone and why is it acne prone?

Your t zone starts with the forehead and spans down and across the nose onto both parts of the checks. It extends down the chin to form the rest of the t, hence the name t zone. This area of the face is very prone to acne. It is the oiliest part of the face and has the most crevasses where bacteria can form.

Combination skin and the T Zone

A lot of people have combination skin in this area, a dry forehead and an oily chin. This results in different kinds of face acne requiring different treatments. Keeping your hands and hair off your face will help improve forehead acne, nose blackheads and chin acne.

Forehead Acne and the T Zone

Forehead acne in the t zone is very common. Hair is often rubbed on the forehead 24 hours a day. Whatever you put in your hair this morning you also probably rubbed on your forehead. Using bangs as away to cover forehead acne will only make this area more congested and prone to breakouts. Exposing this area to sun and removing hair will improve forehead acne. Picking your face will only make your acne worse. In the long run picking your face regularly will leave scars. Most people pick there face and if you are going to pick do it right.

Chin Acne and the T Zone

Chin acne is a very common place for blackheads. The area around your mouth is touched and rubbed a lot. You want to avoid rubbing this area with oily napkins, leaning your hand on your chin etc. There are a lot of mindless actions that involve touching our face that we are not aware of. Restraining from touching your face will reduce a current breakout and prevent more from occurring. Concealing chin acne with makeup will only clog your pores further.

How to Keep the T Zone Acne Free?

Keeping your t zone acne free is best accomplished by having a skin regime that covers all skin types. Using proactive or Clinique has been effective keeping my face acne breakouts to a minimum. I still use Clinique moisturizer even after taking Accutane and only having occasional breakouts. It is effective in moisturizing the dry areas of my face and not adding oil to the oily parts of my face.

Removing acne is very difficult because for most people it is an internal problem. Topical creams cannot remove severe acne because cystic nodules are too deep in the skin to be reached.  Occasional breakouts in the t zone are completely normal and should be treated with a topical acne cream. Exfoliating once a week and keeping this area clean will be effective in controlling these occasional outbreaks. If your face acne consists of nodules I highly recommend seeing a dermatologist before they scar. The only way I was able to effectively get rid of pimples was using Accutane. This is recommended for people with very bad acne.

There is one way to get rid of cystic acne in 5 minutes. There might be more ways but this is the only one I have ever tried that worked consistently. Cortisone shots!

What is a Cortisone Shot?

This is not the steroid cortisone but the kind from your adrenal gland, located above the kidney. This is also used in a cream or pill form to reduce the appearance of acne scars. Injecting this into your bad acne reduces swelling and promotes healing.

My dermatologist in Los Angeles gave me cortisone shots for my bad acne and this was the most effective way I have ever treated my acne other than Accutane. Anytime I had a large cystic pimple I would call him to come by for a pimple emergency.  Part of his service was you could call in and come in for a five-minute and get pimple injections whenever you wanted. LA is the only city I have ever lived that has a service called pimple emergency. I was a bit embarrassed to do this the first time. However, five minutes after they injection my acne it disappeared.

Does a Cortisone Shot Hurt?

Getting a cortisone shot is not painful. I had never had a face injection of any kind before I had my first cortisone shot. It is strange having a needle stuck in your face especially when it is close to your eyes. It stings a little like someone is pitching a tiny portion of your face. It stings a tiny bit and then your bad acne is gone.

What happens After I Get a Cortisone Shot?

The first thing that happens after you receive and injection is the lesion flattens. It can take a day for the red or darker coloration to disappear. Although I have had the discoloring fade within an hour. It highly depends on how large the cystic acne is. Smaller ones will be gone if five minute while larger ones will take much longer. If cortisone shots are an option for you then take advantage of it. I had to impose a bit on my dermatologist in San Francisco but she agreed to give me injections if I ever had an emergency.

Blackhead removal is commonly done with extractions. When you get a professional facial the aesthetician will often use an extractor to remove blackheads.

What is a Blackhead Extractor?

A medal tool that is thin with curved edges and small holes at both ends. This can be harsh on the skin and should not be used by untrained users. This blackhead removal tool is called a comodone extractor.  I have one of these and it is effective. However, it is extremely harsh. You are pressing a medal tool into your skin. Blackheads are almost always in clusters especially around the nose and chin. Using a blackhead remover in these areas is difficult. This blackhead remover can be found at a local drug store. The nail care section next to the nail scissors is where I purchased mine.

Loosen The Blackheads First

Blackhead removal requires that you loosen the blackheads. Applying heat and steam to the area will help release them. It is best to loosen the pores with steam. This can be easily accomplished by filling up a clean sink with hot water and putting a towel over your head. The steam will rise and soften the skin on your face.  Using a hot washcloth and placing it on the area can also accomplish this. Do this for 3-4 minutes refreshing the hot towel as needed. This will soften the oils and dead skin within the pores making them easier to remove. Rap your fingers in tissues put them on either side of the blackhead lightly pull the skin apart and then push the skin together.

This method  will eliminate even deeply rooted blackheads. The more hot water and steam you apply to the area the less damage you will have in the long run.
